In Issue No. 5, Lindsay travels to the mountains via the paintings of Etel Adnan, along coastlines wherever waves roll in, and then all over the world through the photographic archive of Lindsay James Stanger. We celebrate the history of hair braiding in South Africa, Salasacan weaving techniques in Ecuador, Vedic jewellery traditions and the new sound of Ukraine. We meet Cassi Namoda, an artist painting stories of Mozambique; Chinese dancer and choreographer Yang Liping; and Mark Klauber, whose lace-making business is one of the last surviving in New York. And we visit a bakery in Tel Aviv, discover the joys of making the anise spirit arak, and spend a summer stretching mozzarella in Italy.

Lindsay is an independent magazine that acts as a keepsake of our world—an archive of knowledge, culture, history, art and stories from around the globe that deserve to be preserved through print. It celebrate the importance of different cultures and places around the world.

Lindsay Magazine was founded by Beth Wilkinson in 2017 and is created in collaboration with writers, photographers and artists from around the globe. It is designed and published by Oak Park Studio, a creative practice with an artisanal approach to branding, print media, creative direction, publishing, and photography.

The title is named after Beth’s grandfather (Lindsay James Stanger), who was a self-taught photographer with an incredible curiosity for learning about the world and a love for documenting it. Lindsay brings together diverse voices with a curious, open-minded approach to producing thoughtful and borderless editorial content that helps readers around the world learn about the rest of the world.

Lindsay was founded in Melbourne, Australia, on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We pay our respect to their ancestors and elders—past, present and future—and value the role of storytelling in their culture, which is amongst the oldest living cultures in the world.
